The buttons along the left side of the chat screen have the following functions:
CHANNEL: Select a new channel to join or create a private channel. You will be prompted to choose either a Public Channel, or enter the name of a Private Channel that you wish to enter. To start a new Channel, enter the name of the Channel that you wish to create.
CREATE: Create a new game for other players to join. You will be prompted to enter a name for this game and to choose options to setup the game you wish to play. You also have the option to make the game Private by assigning a password to the game. Other players who wish to join your game will need to know the password you have selected. Please see the manual or readme.txt file for information about setting up the game options.
JOIN: Enter an existing game. A list of public games is displayed in the left-hand side display. You can join either a Public or Private game. Public games can be joined any time they have space for one more player within them. To join a Private game you will be required to enter the name of the game and its assigned password. Please note that if someone has just created a game, they will have to be past any loading screens before the game will be listed.
LADDER (Present only if the game supports ladder play): This button allows you to view your ranking in the ladder, search for a player's rank, or simply browse the top players on Battle.net. The initial ranking display shows your rank in the ladder. The filters at the top of the window let you view various aspects of the ladder, including top 50 players, lowest ranked players, fastest achievers and more. "Next" and "previous" buttons allow you to browse through the ladder. Typing in a player's name will center the ladder display on that player's rank.
QUIT: Exits the Battle.net chatroom and returns you to the previous screen.
The window on the right side of the chat screen displays the name of the Channel that you are currently in and lists the other members within that Channel. The portrait for each player displays information about that character such as character class or game wins. See your game manual for more specific information. To the right of the player's name is a colored bar that indicates their Internet latency. The longer the bar is, the slower their connection is.
To communicate with other members of a Channel, type your message within the box at the bottom of the screen and then click on either the SEND or the WHISPER button.
SEND will display your message to everyone in your Channel.
WHISPER will send your message to the selected player only.
To select the player to whom you wish to WHISPER, click on the player's name. Only the player whose name is highlighted will receive messages that you WHISPER.
To toggle player joining/leaving notifications, press control-V.
Special Chat Commands:
/whereis <player>: Searches for another player in public chat rooms and games.
/whisper <player>: Sends a private message to this player. (Short form: /w or /msg)
/squelch <player>: Ignore messages from this player.
/unsquelch <player>: Turns off squelch for this player.
To quickly enter a player's name, click on the player's name from the list and press control-N.
Double-clicking on a player will bring up the player's profile information. Double-clicking on your own name allows you to edit your own profile.
